2009 Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) National Workshop
Over the past two days, a joint team of State, Pueblo Chemical Depot and local Pueblo emergency management personnel attended the national workshop for the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) in Salt Lake City, UT. In addition to the subject-matter expert panels and discussions on how to meet the technical, programmatic and information challenges associated with managing the destruction of the agent/munitions remaining at Pueblo Chemical Depot, the Colorado team also met with their Kentucky counterparts to share unique ideas and strategies. As nationwide destruction activities comes to a close, Colorado and Kentucky will be the two remaining states with ongoing destruction activities extending into the latter half of this decade, once the new facilities and processes being developed to facilitate the agent/material destruction are brought online and their campaigns completed. The workshop provided a unique forum for the exchange of ideas and approaches to handling destruction activities and preparedness initiatives that have dual-use applicability to emergency management as a whole, including specific focus on social media (yes... Twitter... ohhhh... still winged it in there...@COEmergency or www.twitter.com/COEmergency) and public warning methodologies, applicability of computer simulation systems for wider, all-hazards threat conditions.
